Burglary Suspect Shot: A Fullerton man who saw someone breaking into his car Tuesday shot and wounded the suspect--and both men ended up in jail, police said. Fullerton police watch commander Bud Lathrop said that at about 1:14 a.m. at the Orange Fair Mall, a man tried to break into a parked truck, waking the truck’s owner who was sleeping inside. The owner, Ralph Penn, 45, of Fullerton, was “irate,” Lathrop said. According to police, Penn picked up a large-caliber handgun and opened fire, hitting the burglary suspect in the leg. Both Penn and the suspect fled, Sgt. Roger White said. But soon afterward police found Donald E. Shirey, 18, a transient, wounded in the leg and sitting in a stolen car, White said.
