College Baseball : Chapman Rallies to Earn Split

Chapman College scored a run in the sixth and four in the seventh Saturday to win, 6-5, and earn a split of a California Collegiate Athletic Assn. doubleheader at Cal State Northridge. The Panthers (9-8, 21-21) lost the first game, 13-2.
Darren Nelson hit his 16th home run for Chapman in the sixth inning to tie the school’s record for home runs in a season. Chapman’s David Bird (5-3) struck out four in three innings of one-hit relief. Northridge is 12-8, 28-16.
In nonconference baseball:
Master’s 4-18, Southern California College 3-12--Jeff Preston’s RBI single in the eighth inning led Master’s to the first-game victory at home. Joe Holden’s home run tied the score, 3-3, in the seventh for SCC (15-25). In the second game, Master’s scored 13 runs in the first inning. Tom Reyes hit a three-run home run and Preston had a grand slam.
