NORTH EAST, Pa. — The nation’s oldest high school seminary, St. Mary’s Seminary, will close after graduation on June 13.
The Very Rev. Edward Gilbert, provincial of the Baltimore Province of the Redempterist Fathers, which runs the school, said last week that declining enrollment was a major factor in closing the 106-year-old school.
There are now only 28 students in grades 9 through 12 and the school has a staff of 28 priests and lay personnel, school officials said.
