Fullerton : Dancers Sue Fraternity; Say They Were ‘Mauled’

A troubled fraternity at Cal State Fullerton was sued Tuesday by two dancers who said they were “mauled” by overeager partygoers during a performance last September.
During a party at the Delta Chi fraternity house, said Marlene Coggins and Sandra Rose Perron, they stripped naked, oiled their bodies and performed a dance in which they invited spectators to participate.
But the excitement got out of hand, the women said. They claimed they were bruised by spectators and cut by foreign objects in the mat the fraternity provided for their performance.
The women, employed by the Fantasy Girls agency, asked for $1 million in damages in the lawsuit filed in Orange County Superior Court. The suit also named the university as a defendant, alleging that it failed to properly supervise the fraternity.
“This is not a phony; this is for real. They got mauled,” said William A. Sobel, the women’s lawyer. “These guys got carried away in their zeal for a good time at the physical expense of two young ladies.”
Delta Chi was suspended by Cal State Fullerton authorities last fall for failure to correct numerous housing code violations at the fraternity house at 2100 Associated Road. It had been suspended and then reinstated two years ago after several incidents, including a 1984 panty raid on two sororities.
“I’ve got all kind of photographs that show cuts all over their bodies,” Sobel said. “One girl has a scar on her leg. They’re not too happy with this.”
