Forest product companies posted strong first-quarter earnings due to a weaker dollar that makes U.S. exports more competitive on world markets. Price hikes in newsprint and linerboard since the beginning of the year have helped too, analysts said. International Paper reported a 260% increase in profit, Georgia Pacific Corp., up 166%, and Boise Cascade Corp., a 61% increase.
