Granger’s Streak Ends With Bunt Single

Michele Granger of Valencia High School pitched another no-hitter Monday--her fourth consecutive and her eighth of the season--but lost a second game and a bid to tie a Southern Section record for consecutive no-hitters.
Granger, who defeated Glendale in the first round of the Woodbridge Tournament, 11-1, finally gave up a hit after 43 hitless innings since last Tuesday. Stephanie Smith laid down a bunt along the first base line in the 11th inning and the first baseman waited to let the ball roll foul, but it stayed fair.
Granger pitched nine perfect innings against Garden Grove and struck out 26, but lost, 1-0, in 11 innings on a throwing error.
Monday’s no-hitter raises Granger’s Southern Section record career total to 24. Granger walked Glendale’s leadoff batter, then struck out 11 of the 14 remaining batters in the five-inning game.
