Winkler and Esquivel Lead USIU Sweep

Pitchers Karen Winkler and Terri Esquivel led United States International University to a sweep of Nevada Las Vegas in a nonconference softball doubleheader Sunday at USIU.
The Gulls (16-7-1) won each game, 1-0. UNLV is 12-25.
Winkler (5-3) threw a four-hitter and drove in the game-winning run with an eighth-inning single in the first game. Esquivel, who led off the eighth with a single, scored on Winkler’s hit.
Esquivel (6-3) pitched a one-hitter in the second game. Robin Krall led off the second inning with a triple and later scored on an error.
