City All-Stars Beat Southern Section, 107-106

Kevin Franklin of Woodland Hills Taft High School hit an 18-foot jumper with six seconds left to give the City a 107-106 win over the Southern Section in the fourth annual Southern California high school all-star basketball game Friday night at Cal State Dominguez Hills.
J.D. Green of Fairfax led the City with 18 points and was named the most valuable player. David Whitmore of Playa del Rey St. Bernard scored 18 points for the Southern Section.
In the girls’ game, the City won, 72-60, for its first victory in four tries in the series. Guard Gayvon Ooten of Dorsey scored 16 points for the City and won MVP honors. Kristi Smith of Huntington Beach Edison led the Southern Section with 19 points.
