COUNTING FACES

The picture of the Mark Taper Forum staff on the front page of Sunday Calendar April 5 was quite revealing for what it didn’t contain (“The Taper at 20,” by Dan Sullivan).
Artistic Director Gordon Davidson and his staff and not one black face--or was there one?
This seemed to be a week in which two major institutions of Los Angeles paraded their racism. Al Campanis of the Dodgers let us know that black Americans make great baseball players, but they don’t have the mental ability to be managers, general managers or owners of major league baseball teams.
Looking at the cover picture it seems that Davidson believes that black Americans can sing, act and dance but cannot perform the administrative or behind-the-scenes activities at the Taper.
Shame! Shame!
