Orange County Prep Baseball : Dana Hills Edges Capistrano Valley in Ninth

Jay Hollis’ single to right field with two outs in the ninth inning Thursday scored Todd Rochford from second base to give Dana Hills High School a 1-0 victory over Capistrano Valley in a South Coast League game at Dana Hills.

Rochford singled to right field with one out and advanced to second on Craig Lombardi’s sacrifice bunt. Greg Erickson was intentionally walked, and Hollis then hit a 3-2 pitch to right fielder Tommy Adams, who fielded the single and threw to catcher Mike Haywood. Rochford, however, slid in just before the tag.

It was the first league loss for the Cougars (6-1, 11-2 overall), ranked second in this week’s Orange County Sportswriters Assn. poll. Dana Hills is 4-3 and 8-6.
