One proposed abolishing the presidency. Another suggested amending the Constitution to limit personal wealth of individuals to $1 million. These documented proposals and others seeking dramatic changes in the Constitution will be on view at the National Archives in Washington in an exhibit titled “The American Experiment: Living With the Constitution.” “James Madison, Alexander Hamilton and John Jay envisioned the Constitution as an experiment in popular government,” said acting archivist Frank G. Burke. Included in the exhibit will be a copy of the 1873 indictment of feminist Susan B. Anthony for “knowingly, wrongfully and unlawfully” voting “without having a lawful right to vote in said election district (the said Susan B. Anthony being then and there a person of the female sex).”
