The Philippine army accused Communist guerrillas of killing seven civilians and wounding eight after herding them into a school classroom. The Philippine News Agency, quoting Brig. Gen. Felix Brawner, said the 15 were shot by a 40-member rebel group seeking revenge for the murder of a comrade hacked to death by a villager. The military report of the shootings in the remote northern mountain province of Kalinga-Apayao could not be verified independently. More than 600 people have died since a cease-fire between the guerrillas and the government ended two months ago.
