“Hour Magazine” will feature a weekly segment on AIDS beginning May 8. The segments will continue “as long as there are stories to do,” producer Martin Berman said Wednesday. The syndicated TV show hosted by Gary Collins (seen locally on KTTV Channel 11) has been reporting on the disease since October, 1982, Berman said. “We had the chief of the government’s infectious disease unit on the show back then saying, ‘We’re planning to give it a name, to call it AIDS,’ so this isn’t something we’re doing to be fashionable.” The premiere segment will feature Surgeon General C. Everett Koop.
