Singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett extolled manatees instead of margaritas during a congressional hearing held Tuesday. Buffett--who serves as chairman of Florida’s “Save the Manatee Committee”--lobbied for approval of a bill to reauthorize the Endangered Species Act. Buffett said that the act has helped protect the manatee--Florida’s docile, endangered, 700-pound, water-dwelling mammal. Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.) asked Buffett to tell him “a little more about manatees. We don’t have many in Montana.” “They hang out in bars,” Buffett quipped.
