Brian Rosselli pitched his third complete game and Darrell Zavatsky and Mike Rooney provided the offense as Alemany upset first-place Crespi, 11-8, Tuesday in a Del Rey League game at Valley College.
Alemany (11-5, 2-3 in league) came back from a 6-0 deficit to win its fifth straight game. Rosselli (3-2) scattered nine hits, struck out six and walked one. The junior right-hander allowed two unearned runs after Crespi’s six-run second inning.
“I just tried to block out the six runs and pitch like the game was 0-0,” Rosselli said. “I just tried to relax and it worked out pretty well.”
Rooney, a senior, capped Alemany’s five-run fourth inning with a double to left-center field that drove in two runs and put the Indians ahead to stay, 8-6. Zavatsky was 2 for 4 with 2 doubles and 3 runs batted in.
“Things are starting to roll for us,” Alemany Coach Jim Ozella said. “That wasn’t happening early in the year. Things start to blossom when you break the bubble, and we’re starting to score runs and get key hits. Maybe it’s our turn now.”
Crespi (9-3-1, 3-1-1) depended on pitcher Chris Spears, who started the game with an 0.93 earned-run average. Spears was replaced by Greg Connolly in the fourth inning after giving up eight runs on four hits and five walks.
