Cal State Long Beach has suspended its track and cross-country programs in an effort to save the financially troubled athletic department from $125,000 to $150,000 annually.
Long Beach has 16 varsity sports--men’s football, basketball, baseball, swimming, golf, volleyball, tennis and water polo, and women’s basketball, softball, tennis, swimming, golf, gymnastics, soccer and volleyball.
Sixteen teams is the minimum required for a school to retain NCAA Division I-A status.
