A San Diego man was arrested Tuesday after an eight-hour police manhunt for a suspect in a burglary spree that left a car and the garage at a Rancho Bernardo home in flames.
San Diego Police Sgt. Jim Munsterman said Gerald Arlon Green, 34, was seen by a resident on Trailside Way about 11:30 a.m. Police arrested Green and he was being held at the County Jail on suspicion of burglary and arson.
Munsterman said the search for a burglar began about 3:45 a.m. when officers were called to take a report of a burglary in the 11500 block of Box Elder Way. After a check of the area, officers discovered that other homes in the neighborhood had been broken into.
Police sealed off the area and began the search. About 5:30 a.m., they found a garage at a home in the 16000 block of Sun Summit Point engulfed in flames. They also found that a car had been burglarized.
Firefighters put out the blaze, which caused about $65,000 damage. San Diego Fire Department spokesman Larry Cooke said the fire was caused by arson.
