Community College Roundup : Fullerton’s Gonzales Pitches a Perfect Game

Annette Gonzales pitched a perfect game as Fullerton College defeated Mt. San Antonio, 16-0, Friday in a South Coast Conference softball game at Fullerton.
Gonzales (4-2, 13-6) struck out eight. Fullerton scored eight runs in the sixth inning, and Christine Sison had two doubles and two RBIs.
Fullerton is 5-2, 17-7.
Golden West 19, Long Beach City 0--Karen Nakamara pitched a no-hitter for the Rustlers (4-3, 17-10) at Golden West. She has thrown 49 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run. It was the first no-hitter by a Rustler since 1983.
Heather Smittle was 2 for 3 with five RBIs and Kelli Winkler, Char Schmitt and Robin Bokelman were all 3 for 5 with two RBIs for Golden West, which had 18 hits.
Long Beach City is 0-7, 1-15.
In the Orange Empire Conference:
Saddleback 3, Orange Coast 2--The Gauchos (10-2, 25-4) scored three runs in the fifth. Kelly Thomas had a two-run single and Saddleback scored the winning run on an error.
Cypress 4, Citrus 3--Jamie Megna scored on a fielder’s choice in the sixth inning, breaking a 3-3 tie as the Chargers (6-6, 11-12) won their fifth straight.
In Orange Empire Conference women’s swimming:
Orange Coast 164, Saddleback 78--Tina Constable won the 50-yard freestyle in 25.43 seconds as the Pirates won their 54th consecutive swimming meet at Saddleback.
She also won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:01.8. Casie Grant won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:06.98, and the 100-yard medley in 1:04.19 for OCC.
In South Coast Conference volleyball:
Orange Coast 3, El Camino 0--The Pirates (11-0, 19-1) moved to within a match of clinching the conference title with a 15-6, 15-8, 15-8, victory at El Camino. OCC needs to defeat Long Beach City Wednesday to win the title.
Westmont 3, Golden West 2--The Rustlers won the first two games, 15-12, 15-7, but dropped three straight and the match, 15-7, 15-10, 15-11. Todd Hanson had 20 kills for Golden West (7-4).
