Aerojet Ordnance Wins $80-Million Contract

Aerojet Ordnance Co., a Tustin company that produces munitions equipment for the Department of Defense, said that it has received an $80-million, 38-month contract from the U.S. Army Armament, Munitions and Chemical Command at Rock Island, Ill., to produce more than 8,000 Gator Munitions Systems.
The contract for the Gators, which are air-delivered mine systems, is scheduled to run through June, 1990.
Though substantial, the contract will not generate any new jobs for the company, according to Edward L. Smith, vice president of communications. “As the prime contractor, our responsibility will be systems integration,” he said. “We will not build any parts.”
Aerojet Ordnance Co. is part of Aerojet-General Corp. of La Jolla, which is a subsidiary of GenCorp.
