Community College Roundup : Rancho Santiago Loses in Softball

Rancho Santiago pitcher Dawn Robertson walked pinch-hitter Char Taquinod with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning as Cypress defeated Rancho Santiago, 1-0, in an Orange Empire Conference softball game at Cypress.
The loss dropped Rancho Santiago (9-2, 15-7) into a tie with Saddleback for first place in the conference.
Robertson (4-3) allowed a lead-off single in the first inning and then retired 19 straight batters before allowing a walk with one out in the seventh inning. Two Rancho Santiago errors helped Cypress (5-7, 10-13) load the bases.
In another Orange Empire Conference game:
Saddleback 2, Citrus 1--Debbie Hartwig drove in the winning run with a single in the bottom of the seventh to give Saddleback (9-2, 24-4) a victory at home. Citrus is 2-6 in conference.
In a South Coast Conference game:
Fullerton 1, Golden West 0--A throwing error by Golden West catcher Char Schmidt allowed Renee Culp to score in the second inning, giving Fullerton (4-2, 16-7) a victory at Golden West. Golden West is 3-3 and 16-10.
