Beverly Hills Upheld on Smoking

A judge today upheld Beverly Hills’ tough no-smoking law, which as of Friday will ban smoking in retail stores, at public meetings and, most controversially, in all restaurants except those in hotels.
Superior Court Judge Ricardo Torres refused to grant a temporary restraining order requested by the Beverly Hills Restaurant Assn., which has sued the the city, contending that the ordinance is unconstitutional. Only one other city in the country, Aspen, Colo., has such strict smoking regulations.
