Boy, 8, Killed After Apparently Darting Into Path of Auto

An 8-year-old boy was killed Wednesday when he was struck by a passing automobile while crossing the 9600 block of Juniper Street in the Watts area.
The California Highway Patrol said Daryl Augustine Jr., 8, of Lynwood apparently darted into the path of a northbound automobile whose driver was unable to stop or swerve in time to avoid striking him.
The child was pronounced dead at the scene.
