Alan L. Goldin, senior research fellow in biology at Caltech, has received an award of $43,200 annually for up to eight years to support his research into the structural and genetic characteristics of viruses that attack the human nervous system, such as rabies and polio.
The Lucille P. Markey Charitable Trust in Miami said that Goldin is one of 16 outstanding young researchers this year to receive the Markey Scholar Award in Biomedical Science. Under a fellowship from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Goldin is also investigating the communication pathways between nerve cells in the brain.
