Redondo Beach : Boat Hoists May Reopen
Two boat hoists in King Harbor that have been closed since late December will probably be reopened by mid-April.
The hoists, which have been unprofitable, are being repaired, said Gordon McRae, vice president and general manager of the Redondo Beach Marina where the hoists are located.
He had previously said that the company would not operate the hoists and was looking for an outside operator. The company decided to operate the hoists, however, after the city said it had a contractual obligation to do so, McRae said. The company obtained a rent reduction from the city, which owns King Harbor.
The hoists were shut down in December when the former operator, Salco Marine Services Inc., was evicted.
The hoists will be in operation between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends and will cost between $15 and $25, depending on the size of the boat.
