Center fielder Joey Speakes was 4 for 5, including a sixth-inning home run, to lead Poly (8-0) to a 12-7 East Valley League win over Grant. Danny Gil was 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs for Poly. . . . Donnie Kelley capped a 10-run second inning with a two-run home run to lead Sylmar (6-2) to an 18-0 East Valley league win over Hollywood. Tom Shelburne had four RBIs for Sylmar. . . . Randy Guerrero scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the seventh inning to give San Fernando a 5-4 Mid-Valley League victory over Birmingham (2-3). Simon Chavez was 3 for 4 with 1 RBI for San Fernando (4-1). . . . Jason Ferrell (2-1) scattered five hits over 6 innings as Kennedy defeated Van Nuys, 5-2, in a Mid-Valley League game. Ferrell struck out five and walked five. Pat Deboer was 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs for Kennedy. . . . Monroe scored three unearned runs on three Granada Hills errors in the seventh to send the game into extra innings then scored three more in the ninth to score a 9-8, Mid-Valley League win. . . . Henry Schelb yielded a leadoff triple in the eighth and then scored on a squeeze bunt as Taft (1-4) defeated Cleveland, 9-8, in a West Valley League game. Jimmy Doushgounian was 2 for 5 with 3 RBIs and 2 doubles for Cleveland (3-2).
Greg Barton had a bases-loaded double to lead Crespi to an eight-run second in an 11-2 Del Rey League victory over St. Francis. Chris Spears (3-1) threw a four-hitter through six innings for Crespi (8-2, 3-0). . . . Greg Haptor hit a two-run home run in the fifth to lead Notre Dame to a 5-3 Del Rey League win over Loyola. . . . Ceo Wimmer singled in the winning run with a two-out, bases-loaded single in the seventh to lead Calabasas (2-2) to a 2-1 Frontier League win over Agoura (1-3). Glenn Hansen pitched a four-hitter, giving up only an unearned run to earn the victory. . . . Senior left-hander Bill Lucid threw a two hitter, striking out 11, as Alemany (8-5) defeated Redondo, 3-0, in a nonleague game. Mike Rooney was 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs and Bill Horvat was 3 for 3 for Alemany.
Art Espinoza was 3 for 4 with a double, home run and 2 RBIs, but San Marcos defeated Rio Mesa, 6-4, in a Channel League game. . . . Don Pederson had two home runs and five RBIs in the first two innings to lead Saugus (5-3, 3-1) to a 13-3 Golden League win over Ridgecrest Burroughs (0-4, 2-7). Steve Risinger (3-0), who hit a two-run home run in the fourth, struck out the first four batters he faced. . . . Ken Sollom hit a solo home run and Eric Martinez had an RBI triple lead Canyon to a 5-0 Golden League win over Antelope Valley. Travis Regnolds (3-2) struck out 14 while tossing a three-hitter for Canyon (4-3, 4-0 in league).
Pat Huston hit a grand slam in the third to lead Montclair Prep (10-1, 4-0) to a 11-1 Alpha League win over L.A. Baptist. L.A. Baptist is 4-2 overall and 1-2 in league. . . . Scott Veres was 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs and relief pitcher Mike Birch pitched 5 innings to earn the win as Oak Park (4-3, 2-1) defeated Carpinteria, 5-4, in a Tri-Valley League game.
SOFTBALL
Melissa Mahan (4-0) threw a no-hitter to lead La Reina to a 15-1 Tri-Valley League win over Moorpark (2-2). . . . Colleen Walker threw a one-hitter and struck out 11 to lead Royal to a 3-0 Marmonte League victory over Camarillo (2-8, 0-3). Missy Cress went 3 for 3 for Royal (8-3, 3-1). . . . Jamie Heggen hit her third home run of the season in the fifth inning with one on to lead Thousand Oaks (6-3) to a 7-2 Marmonte League win over Newbury Park.
