Oral Roberts Ends Vigil With Plea for Money

TULSA, Okla. — Evangelist Oral Roberts, who had said God told him he would die unless he raised $8 million by the end of March, wound up a 10-day prayer vigil Tuesday with a final entreaty to followers to send money.
The $8-million goal for financing a medical missionary scholarship program was reached earlier in the month, but Roberts indicated Tuesday that he still considered his life to be on the line. He said his ministry needs more than the $8 million to make the program work.
“I want to come down from this prayer tower tonight, not only with the needs met, but with the overflow,” he said in a remote hookup on his son’s “Richard Roberts Live” television program.
