Salvador Crash Kills CIA Employee

WASHINGTON — A CIA employee was killed last week when a Salvadoran military helicopter crashed in the eastern part of that Central American country, the State Department said.
The Salvadoran military announced last week that a U.S.-made UH-1H Huey crashed on a flight from San Miguel to San Salvador, killing four Salvadorans.
On Monday, State Department spokesman Greg Lagana said the crash also killed a CIA employee. The State Department and the CIA both refused to release the identity of the American victim.
However, the Patriot Ledger in Quincy, Mass., reported Monday that a former area resident named Richard D. Kroboch died last week in a helicopter crash in El Salvador.
The newspaper quoted the man’s father, Dr. John R. Kroboch of Sacramento, Calif., as saying he had been informed of his son’s death but knew no details of the incident or his son’s assignment.
The paper described Kroboch as a captain in the U.S. Army. However, according to the Army, Capt. Richard D. Kroboch, 31, left the service with an honorable discharge last November.
