Four custodial employees of the Los Angeles Unified School District accused of involvement in a supply theft ring were fired Tuesday by unanimous vote of the Board of Education.
Dismissed were James Riley, director of custodial operations and a school district employee for 28 years; Melvin Tokunaga, his top deputy and a 14-year employee; Joseph Brazile, a power-spray operator and 10-year employee, and Robert Barrios, senior gardener and 12-year employee.
Riley has appealed his firing to the district’s Personnel Commission. The others have 30 days to decide whether to do so.
