2 Killed as Light Planes Collide

OAKLAND — Two light planes collided in midair near the Oakland Coliseum today, killing the pilots of both aircraft, an Oakland Fire Department spokeswoman said.
One flier died he when his plane fell with a crumpled wing to the ground near Interstate 880 and burst into flames inside a Pacific Gas & Electric Co. service yard. Daniel Robison, a PG&E; security guard, was injured on the ground and rushed to Highland Hospital where he was listed in stable condition, suffering from shock. The second pilot died after his aircraft plunged into the north end of San Leandro Bay, where the cockpit was buried in mud and water. Names of the victims were not immediately available.
