Big Shots Should Face the Firing Squad

Kudos to Bob Oates for his recent commentary regarding the misdirected NCAA penalties. Colleges and universities that break the rules should hold their respective presidents responsible just like it’s done in the corporate world.

Despite the “death penalty” imposed on Southern Methodist University, it has been mentioned that nothing will change anywhere except actions will now be more covert. USC President James Zumberge led SMU as its president through three major NCAA violations in his five-year tenure at the Dallas university. He was at the helm at USC when the Trojans were punished for illegal recruiting tactics. If anyone is an expert on heading a major collegiate sports institution as it breaks numerous NCAA rules, it’s Zumberge. However, he refused an interview with The Times. Is he still hiding something?

If there is to be a death penalty, let it be invoked in the “ivory tower,” not on the gridiron.
