Community College Roundup : Gonzales’ Two-Hitter Paces Fullerton, 6-0

Annette Gonzales pitched a two-hitter and struck out five batters to lead Fullerton College to a 6-0 South Coast Conference victory over El Camino Friday at Fullerton.
Gonzales (2-2) and Sandra Williams led the offense with two hits each.
The Hornets (3-2, 15-7) scored five runs in the fifth inning to take control of the game. Pinch-hitter Traci Smith’s single scored two runs in the fifth.
In Orange Empire softball:
Saddleback 1, Riverside 0--Kelly Decker’s single scored Kelli Thomas from third base and gave the Gauchos (7-2, 22-3) the victory at home. Winning pitcher Patti Taylor threw a one-hitter, striking out 11 batters.
In nonconference men’s tennis:
Saddleback 8, Grossmont 1--No. 1 singles player Mike Boice defeated Mo Jackson, 6-2, 6-0, to lead the Gauchos (11-2). In No. 1 doubles, Boice and Grant Hein defeated Kirk Edwards and Scott Del Mastro, 6-0, 6-0.
In South Coast men’s volleyball:
Golden West 3, Pierce 2--Golden West, led by setter Eddie Rapp, won with scores of 15-13, 15-9, 8-15, 13-15, 15-10. Rapp had 97 assists for Golden West, which is 7-3 in conference. Tim Johnson had 33 kills for the Rustlers.
Orange Coast 3, Westmont 0--Orange Coast won with scores of 15-3, 15-4, 15-5. Dan Murray had five stuff blocks and 7 kills to lead the Pirates. Setter Curt Moothart had 20 assists for OCC (10-0 16-1).
In men’s Orange Empire Conference swimming:
Orange Coast 70, Palomar 45, San Diego Mesa 38--OCC (4-0, 5-0) took a big step toward the conference championship with this tri-meet victory at San Diego Mesa. Karl Stewart, Rob Laurie, Chris Duncan and Steve Sturdivant had the fastest 400-meter medley relay in the state this season at 3:41.94. Stewart, Laurie and Sturdivant each won three events.
In women’s Orange Empire Conference swimming:
Orange Coast 75, Palomar 50, San Diego Mesa 33--Nine OCC swimmers qualified for the state championships as the Pirates (4-0, 5-0) remained unbeaten. OCC’s Pam Pyykko won the 100-meter backstroke and the 100-meter freestyle.
