LETTERS : Passing Comments

There are too many articles such as the one concerning Mike Schwartzer and Matt Gilmore of Reseda High not to make the following comments:
Why are 16- and 17-year-olds given so much print in a major newspaper about something as minor as high school athletics;
Why should a coach (or anyone else in such a responsible position) have to respond to charges from 16- and 17-year-olds in print;
It appears that this is another example of parents and their blindness when dealing with their own children;
It also appears that the underlying reason for transferring was to give these young men a chance to show their abilities to scouts in the hopes of sometime becoming professional athletes--something the odds are tremendously against.
Lastly, one goes to school first and foremost to be educated in the classroom, to be prepared for life. Athletics IS secondary. How did these young men find the education at Taft? Nothing was mentioned about this.
