SATURDAY LETTERS : PREVIN & THE PHILS
I love to attend the Los Angeles Philharmonic. I delight in not only hearing pieces I have come to love, but in the joy of discovering something new, even if it is only new to me.
As a result, Israel’s letter puzzled me. I have a compact disc player, and I have been known to go straight from a Philharmonic performance to a record shop to pick up a piece that I have heard for the first time.
Perhaps it is my age. At 34 I am neither old enough nor arrogant enough to feel that I have heard everything that is “good.”
Play on, O mighty Phils! Even an occasional clam is better than sticking to just the tried and true. How dull.
