Darnyi Sets 400 Individual Medley Record

BOCA RATON, Fla. — Tamas Darnyi broke the 400-yard individual medley record Thursday with a time of 3:43.04 in the U.S. Swimming Short Course National Championships at the Mission Bay Aquatics Center.
Darnyi, swimming for the Central Sports Club of Hungary, cut 3.26 seconds off of the old U.S. Open record set in 1984 by Brazilian swimmer Ricardo Prado.
Janet Evans of Placentia, Calif., won her second title of the meet in the women’s 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:12.32.
