Matching Folklore, March Will Go Out Like a Lamb

Times Staff Writer

The last weekend of March will be quite a contrast to the previous two, as San Diegans can expect sunshine and pleasant breezes.

A Santa Ana condition began to build on Thursday and will continue through at least early next week, said forecaster Wilbur Shigehara of the National Weather Service.

This will bring clear skies and warmer-than-normal temperatures to the area, quite a switch from the cloudy and cool conditions of the last two weekends.

“We haven’t had too many prize-winning weekends lately, but I think we’ll get one this time around,” Shigehara said.

Gusty winds are still expected for the mountain and desert areas, but nothing like the strong winds that have plagued travelers for most of the last three weeks, he said.

Another difference from the previous two weekends will be the clear skies, with only some coastal fog expected this morning, according to Shigehara.

Temperatures will be higher than average today and Saturday, and nudge up even a few degrees more on Sunday. It was 69 degrees at Lindbergh Field on Thursday, while normal for that date is 66.

“Sunday will be the warmest day of the weekend, and we may even hit 80 degrees in the warmest inland areas then,” Shigehara said.

The surf will be three to five feet, and the ocean temperature near 59.

Coastal highs will range from 65 to 70 today and Saturday, and a couple of degrees warmer Sunday. Lows will be in the low 50s. Inland valley areas will have highs between 70 and 75 today and Saturday, increasing to between 75 and 80 on Sunday. Overnight lows will be in the low 40s.
