Clemens Rejects ‘Last Offer’ From Red Sox

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — The agent for Roger Clemens rejected the latest offer of the Boston Red Sox, who said Saturday they are preparing to start the season without the American League’s Most Valuable Player and Cy Young Award winner.
“Talks have broken off,” Boston General Manager Lou Gorman said. “From now on, they’ll have to call us.”
Gorman said the club’s “last and best offer” was rejected by Clemens’ agent, Randy Hendricks.
Gorman said that the proposal had the same base salary of $500,000, but incentives were increased from $450,000 to $475,00.
Earlier this week, the Red Sox turned down Hendricks’ proposal that Clemens be paid a flat $950,000.
