MANCHESTER, N.H. — Everyone knows mail will make it to your home through snow, sleet or hail, but in Manchester, it makes it to your hand even if you don’t have a home.
The Social Security Administration sent a letter to a homeless woman addressed “On the Streets, Manchester, N.H.,” and it reached her three weeks later.
Postal officials in Manchester sent the letter to the New Horizons shelter and soup kitchen for the homeless on Feb. 19. Late last week, the woman appeared at the center in search of some new clothes and picked up the letter.
Henrietta Charest, the shelter’s executive director, said workers there recognized the name and held the letter, hoping the woman would visit the soup kitchen, as she does every few weeks.
