University of Southern California President James H. Zumberge on Thursday honored Valley residents Herbert (Bert) F. Boeckmann II and his wife, Jane, for their contributions to the university’s Boeckmann Center for Iberian and Latin American Studies.
The Boeckmanns have donated to the university 100,000 volumes of historical, political, theological, scientific and literary works from Latin America, some dating to the 17th Century.
The Boeckmanns also set up an annual endowment to administer and catalogue the collection.
The collection, part of USC’s Doheny Library, is the largest of its kind in Southern California, university officials said. It was dedicated to the Boeckmanns in September, 1985.
Bert Boeckmann is the owner of Galpin Ford in Sepulveda.
