‘Run for Hungry’ to Aid Burbank Needy
Burbank City Council members--frustrated that the city had received no funds from last year’s nationwide Hands Across America demonstration to benefit the needy--have given their blessing to a local race to aid the city’s poor and homeless.
Titled “Burbank Run For the Hungry,” the 8-kilometer run will begin and end in front of the Columbia Movie Studios on May 10th. Organizers hope to raise at least $15,000 to give to area organizations that assist the needy.
The run is the idea of Councilman Michael R. Hastings. He said he was distressed that Burbank received no funds generated by Hands Across America, even though the city participated in the event.
