GREENFIELD, Iowa — Jesse Jackson, nudging closer to a second campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination, opened an exploratory office Thursday in “the soul of the heartland” and said he will be a force in 1988.
Jackson said he has expanded the “rainbow coalition” he developed in 1984 and that Democrats must contend with it during the selection process.
In a speech before more than 100 people, Jackson hammered at economic themes and how they will tie into his political strategy.
The exploratory office is in a small farm-oriented town about 45 miles southwest of Des Moines.
