In its third change of name and ownership in 14 months, List American Bank in Orange will become American Merchant Bank at the beginning of April.
List American will officially change its name on March 31, a state Banking Department spokesman said. After filing for bankruptcy protection in January, land developer Martin List sold his 450,000 shares and control of List American Bank to Emmanuel Nicherie and his son, Daniel Nicherie, the San Antonio owners of Diagnostic Centers of America, a nationwide chain of outpatient clinics, for about $4.8 million.
List had purchased control of Orange City Bank for roughly the same amount in December, 1985, and immediately changed its name to List American.
