Musicians of the New Orleans Symphony refused to show up for rehearsal Sunday and said they wouldn’t play three concerts scheduled this week until they receive more than $400,000 in back pay. The financially troubled orchestra has not paid its 80 musicians and more than 20 staff members in six weeks. The orchestra faces an April 3 deadline for a $200,000 matching grant that has been earmarked for salaries. The orchestra’s financial problems stem from a $4-million debt that has been draining operating funds for the past two years.
