‘Humanism as Religion’

Judge William Brevard Hand of Mobile is the same judge who in 1982 held that the Constitution did not prohibit states from establishing religion and preaching it in the schools. Acknowledging that the Supreme Court had repeatedly ruled just the opposite, Judge Hand lawlessly decided that the high court’s decisions didn’t have to be obeyed because the justices were wrong.
At the end of that decision, the renegade judge vowed that if he were reversed he would proceed to enjoin the teaching of secular humanism. He was reversed that time, and he will be reversed this time. But in the meantime, Judge Hand’s perverse decision demeans his office, his oath, and our Constitution in the year of its Bicentennial.
