Czech triple jumper Jan Cado, who competed in the first world indoor track championships in Indianapolis, failed to return home, the Czechoslovak Communist Party daily Rude Pravo reported in Prague.
It said that Cado had not arrived back in Prague with the rest of the Czech team, “as he failed to show up for departure in the United States.”
The implication was that Cado had defected. Cado, 22, holds the Czech record in his event and was sixth in the 1983 world championships.
