Pittsburgh-based H.J. Heinz Co. reported an 18% rise in profit for the third quarter ended Jan. 28, despite a rise in the company’s marketing costs. The firm’s improved profitability was due to company-wide cost-cutting measures and higher sales, a spokesman said. Heinz’s third-quarter revenue was up 7%. For the first nine months of its fiscal year, Heinz earnings were up 11% from the same period a year ago and revenue was up 5%.
