Lawndale : Summer Child-Care Center
The Recreation and Community Services Department will operate a child day-care center this summer at William Green Elementary School, where the Lawndale Elementary School District runs a similar program during the school year.
Department Director Brady Cherry said financing arrangements for the program have not been completed, but he said he expects the program to be self-supporting but affordable to parents.
The school district charges $40 a month per child or $50 per family for after-school care until 6 p.m. Fees for before-school care beginning at 6:30 a.m. are $25 per child or $30 per family. A district spokeswoman said the program will be expanded this fall to include the district’s five other elementary schools.
Cherry said the state Department of Public Social Services will not require the city to obtain a license because the program will operate only during the summer.
