For the second year, a fishing competition is being held on the Redondo Beach Pier and the person who catches the heaviest fish by the end of August will also reel in about $500 in prizes.
Contestants must register at the police substation on the pier and pay a $5 entry fee. All fish entered in the competition, which runs from March 1 through Aug. 31, must be caught off the Redondo Beach Pier.
Last year, Robert McLaughlin of Redondo Beach won with a 17-pound halibut.
A 4.96-pound halibut is the heaviest entry so far this year. The contestants this year range from 7 to 90 years old.
