“GENESIS”
India/France, 1986, 3 p.m.
Noted Indian film maker Mrinal Sen effects a striking parable concerning three people living a subsistence existence in the ruins of a deserted village during an unspecified era. The characters--called simply the farmer, the weaver and the woman--thrive until their mortal shortcomings come to the fore. Sen exacts some old-fashioned justice in this motley Garden of Eden but remains a shade too judgmental to serve the humanistic nature of the story.
