About twice the normal absenteeism was reported by the Los Angeles City Housing Authority after a group named the All Employee Action Committee issued leaflets calling for a one-day job action protesting the lack of a pay raise in 30 months. Leila Gonzalez-Correa, executive director, said none of the three unions representing the agency’s 750 employees was involved. She said a proposed salary increase, higher than the national cost-of-living average, is in the budget now before the commission’s finance committee. She said about 145 employees, mostly maintenance workers and tenant relations assistants, called in sick. All project offices remained open, she said. No one from the group calling for the job action was available for comment.
