The annual Helen Hayes Awards, which honor outstanding achievements in theater in Washington, will be held at the Kennedy Center in May. Producer Harold Prince, master of ceremonies, will preside over the affair with co-hosts Carol Channing and Mary Martin. This year’s presenters include Chita Rivera, Anthony Quinn, Estelle Getty, Carol Lawrence and Roberta Flack. Among the performers that evening: Joel Grey reprising a song from “Cabaret,” Larry Kert in a number from “West Side Story,” Karen Akers in a tribute to Stephen Sondheim and Colm Wilkinson in his show-stopping number from “Les Miserables.”
